I wouldn't bother if you're a new patient..
Normally I would let this go, but come on- you're working in a psychiatrist's office. My mother was Laura's patient way back in the day, so I thought I would feel more comfortable calling here first as I'm young and very new at this, but the way this was handled definitely made me feel alienated, and unwelcome. Not the right vibe to be giving off if you're looking to help people.
Dr Vandusen is wonderful. I have seen her for years. She is very caring and helpful.
Unfortunately this is a review on Van Dusen's secretary and not the doctor herself. I called Van Dusen's office three times within the last week seeking an appointment/information about whether they are accepting new patients- and was met with voicemail every time (I called at a different day part every time also.) I suffer from social anxiety, so phone calls in general, and voice mails specifically, are not the easiest for me.
When I did leave a message and got a call back, the secretary was quite rude in tone and demeanor in letting me know that Laura's availability was closed off until October. She did not even ask me if I was still interested in making an appointment, or ask me if I needed a referral to another doctor.
Dr. Laura is very kind and understanding. She listens to what I have to say about how I am feeling without judgment and works with me and my body to find the right medications for me. She doesn't just give me something without discussing the medication with me and allows me time to do my own research. She tried to stay away from addictive medications and only prescribes them as a last resort. I really appreciate the time and care she takes with me!
